CERTIFICATION
REQUIREMENTS The requirements of the
certification program includes 30 hours of coursework, 30 hours of practicum
experience, 10 hours of case conference, and 5 hours of personal training,
for a total of 75 hours as follows: 1. Coursework: Breathing
is Behavior (4 days, 30 hours) The
program is organized into five sections, including case histories and
demonstrations: 1.
Overview (1 hour) 2.
Physiological mechanisms (6 hours) 3.
Behavioral principles (5 hours) 4.
Behavioral analysis (9 hours) 5.
Behavior modification (9 hours) The five sections are
broken down into the following 20 modules, each of which includes a set of
Power Point slides for the trainee’s personal use: Module 1: overview Module 2: hypocapnia Module 3: external
respiration Module 4: air and gases Module 5: oxygen Module 6: carbon dioxide Module 7: acid-base balance
Module 8: renal physiology Module 9: cellular
respiration Module 10: behavioral
physiology Module 11: biological
learning Module 12: origins of
deregulation Module 13:
measurement-instrumentation Module 14: coaching and
teaching Module 15: interviewing Module 16: testing Module 17: learning Module 18: education Module 19: mechanics Module 20: phenomenology Certification trainees are
required to pass a take-home open-book examination, designed to provide
useful feedback to both the trainee and the Institute. The trainee turns in the examination by
email to s.reamer@bp.edu upon its completion. 2. Personal Practicum: 5
hours Trainees are required to be
recipients of the services they plan to render to their clients, including
assessment and coaching. Trainees
learn how to do Internet coaching through remote operation of instrumentation
used by clients in the field. 3. Case Conference: 10
hours Trainees attend five
two-hour Skype.com based case conference sessions, during which time they
present at least two cases of their own. 4. Assessment Practicum:
10 hours (10 trainees) Trainees are required to do
10 breathing behavior assessments, and to document these sessions on the Practicum Record form. 5. Coaching Practicum:
20 hours Trainees are required to
complete 20 one-hour sessions with five different trainees, and to document
these sessions on the Practicum Record form. End |
